Federal regulators consider rule change that could let Tesla Cybercab skip manual brake controls

The NHTSA is proposing to remove requirements for manual brake controls in fully autonomous vehicles, a change that would directly benefit Tesla's Cybercab and other purpose-built robotaxis. The proposal still requires electronic braking systems but eliminates the need for traditional pedals, following a 2022 rule change that already allowed autonomous vehicles without steering wheels.
