California will fine robotaxi companies for interfering with first responders

California enacted SB 1246, which imposes fines up to $10,000 per vehicle on robotaxi operators that block emergency responders for more than 30 minutes, effective July 2028. The law also requires companies like Waymo, Tesla, and Zoox to employ remote drivers capable of moving vehicles out of the way.
